Position Statement on Backyard Hens
The Nipissing and Area Food Roundtable supports local food policies and zoning bylaws that promote safe, local food production. The Nipissing & Area Food Roundtable would be pleased to work with municipalities to develop policies that support local food production in our community.
Specifically, the Nipissing and Area Food Roundtable supports bylaws that permit the raising of backyard hens (no roosters) in residential areas. We also support that the hens and eggs be for household use only and that home slaughter be prohibited.
