Growing our food connections in Nipissing
With organic certifying bodies going back and forth on plastic mulch, and with no conclusive benefit other than weed suppression, moisture retention, and early season warmth, plastic mulch (biodegradable or not) is quickly overstaying its welcome on our farm. Living mulches provide an opportunity to retain and potentially increase the nutrients in the soil, be less cost prohibitive, reduce the amount of inputs and be an overall better fit in a sustainable ecological farm system. Bring your own thoughts and experiences and join us to discuss alternatives to plastic mulch, and learn about the outcome of sowing clover underneath cucurbits and alliums at Field Good Farms in 2017.
